Economic department

This department was the self-government’s largest department in terms of organization. It included a Central Office, which distributed and allotted food to the prisoners through nine provisions offices. It included a potato-peeling section, as well as its own production facilities, such as a bakery.

The Central Administration of Materials and Inventories (Zentralmaterial und Inventarverwaltung) oversaw the needs of the various buildings. It had several sub-groups.

The Production Department (Wirtschaftsabteilung Produktion) had a complex structure with many sub-sections, in addition to its own secretariat, technical laboratory and administration. Other departments included a head office, which was divided into sections according to activity, and a Farming Department (Landwirtschaft). There were also storehouses and craft workshops here. Shipping (Spedition) was a separate department.
